IceCube at the frontier of macroscopic dark matter direct detection

چکیده
A bstract For a class of macroscopic dark matter models, inelastic scattering off nucleus can generate electromagnetic signatures with GeV-scale energy. The IceCube detector, its kilometer-scale size, is ideal for directly detecting such scattering. Based on the slow particle trigger DeepCore we perform detailed signal and background simulation to estimate discovery potential. order 1 GeV deposited energy in each interaction, find that probe masses up one gram.

Icecube, the World’s Largest Dark Matter Detector
IceCube is a kilometer scale high-energy neutrino observatory, currently under construction at the South Pole. It is a photo-detector, using the deep Antarctic ice as detection medium for the Cherenkov photons induced by relativistic charged particles. These charged particles may be atmospheric muons or reaction products from neutrino interactions in the vicinity of the instrumented volume. The...

متن کاملDirect detection of galactic halo dark matter.
The Milky Way galaxy contains a large, spherical component which is believed to harbor a substantial amount of unseen matter. Recent observations indirectly suggest that as much as half of this "dark matter" may be in the form of old, very cool white dwarfs, the remnants of an ancient population of stars as old as the galaxy itself. We conducted a survey to find faint, cool white dwarfs with la...
متن کاملDirect Detection of Cold Dark Matter
We know from cosmological and astrophysical observations that more than 80% of the matter density in the Universe is non-luminous, or dark. This non-baryonic dark matter could be composed of neutral, heavy particles, which were non-relativistic, or ’cold’, when they decoupled from ordinary matter. I will review the direct detection methods of these hypothetical particles via their interactions ...
متن کاملDirect Detection of Non-Chiral Dark Matter
Direct detection experiments rule out fermion dark matter that is a chiral representation of the electroweak gauge group. Non-chiral real, complex and singlet representations, however, provide viable fermion dark matter candidates. Although any one of these candidates will be virtually impossible to detect at the LHC, it is shown that they may be detected at future planned direct detection expe...
